"Product and trademark counterfeiting violates intellectual property rights and causes great economic damage. In addition, the quality of counterfeited goods often leaves much to be desired. Consumers are legitimately entitled to expect products they have purchased to be safe and to pose no threat to health. Providing consumers with information forms part of the fight against product and trademark piracy as this helps to protect consumers from being tricked."
